Powerful storms rip through north Georgia
ATLANTA - Powerful storms blew through north Georgia around midday Monday, leaving damage in many parts of the area. The storm line moved out of the greater Atlanta area by mid-afternoon, but parts of southeast Georgia remain under a Tornado Watch until Monday night.
Monday's severe weather led the Federal Aviation Association to temporarily suspended air traffic at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, where travel delays resulted from the intense storms. Operations were slowly returning to normal late Monday.

The storms prompted Tornado Warnings in a number of counties, including Paulding, Baldwin, Jasper, Carroll, Fulton, Butts, Spalding and Henry. FOX 5 viewers who live in those areas have shared photos of fallen trees and power lines, as well as damaged homes and buildings.
FOX 5's Deidra Dukes spoke with several residents in Carrollton who are convinced they saw a tornado. One woman was inside her home, washing dishes in the kitchen, when fierce winds caused a tree to topple on her roof.
"I felt my house shake, and then I didn't realize until about five minutes after the event that something like that had happened," she said. "It's pretty shocking.

Also in Carrollton, Fire Station 22 shared unbelievable video of a roof being ripped off a building.

On Alabama Street, crews worked well into the night to remove a tree that came crashing down onto a home. Peggy Ackey and her son were inside when it happened.
“You can hear the glass start breaking,” said Peggy Ackey. “Tree went through the top of my roof, but I pray to God we are alright everything is alright.”
Ackey son, Bobby Pitts said the storm caused the windows in his car to shatter.
“A lot of rain and wind, it was like a whistling sound and then glass and everything just started popping,” said Bobby Pitts.
In Atlanta, a tree fell on top of a vehicle on Peachtree Street at 3rd Street, forcing police to block off one lane of traffic. As the tree fell, it took down a power line. The storms moved through downtown Atlanta just after noon.
So far, no injuries have been reported.
