Alabama man charged with murdering Roswell couple

A couple from Roswell were reportedly shot and killed in Alabama. The Etowah County Sheriff's Office has already arrested the suspected shooter.

What we know:

Roswell residents Michael McKenzie, 72, and his wife, Darla McKenzie, 68, were found on Tuesday afternoon in a rural part of Etowah County. They had both been shot. It happened along Coats Bend Circle.

Darla was airlifted to a Birmingham medical facility where she died from her injuries. Michael was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on scene evidence and the 911 calls that were dispatched to deputies, they were able to quickly identify a suspect, Christopher Scott Johnson.

He was quickly located and arrested.

Johnson was charged with capital murder and is being held without bond.

What we don't know:

Officials did not detail how Michael and Darla came to be in Alabama.

It's also not clear whether the suspect knew the couple.

What they're saying:

Etowah County Sheriff Jonathan Horton said his team will try its best to get justice.

"This is an incredibly difficult time for the McKenzie family, and our hearts go out to them," Sheriff Horton said. "The loss of loved ones in such a tragic manner is devastating, and we extend our deepest sympathy to their family and friends. To the Etowah County community, I want to assure you that we are committed to ensuring justice is served, and there is no threat to your safety."
