Woman Scares Away Burglar

Michele Barnett was home sick when she heard a noise at her front door. It frightened her, but when she looked out the peep hole of her front door, what she saw terrified her.

“That was so scary.  It was one of the scariest moments of my life,” Barnett said.

A man was breaking the dead bolt off her front door. She quickly locked a second lock. Then, he was the one surprised.

“He jumped and he took off running and I thought OK we’re good.  But I still hit 911 on my phone and called,” Barnett said.

Thinking he was gone for good, Michele looked out the peep hole again only to find the man back at her door.  Although she was even more terrified to see him again, this second chance provided her with a really good look at him.  She was able to help a GBI sketch artist develop a sketch of the man.

“Then I just said really loud to the 911 operator, someone is trying to break into my house, so I knew he could hear me.  At that point I saw him jump back.  But I still went and hid in my bathroom just in case he tried to kick it in,” Barnett said.

Peachtree City Police say Michele did everything right and are trying to identify the man.

Michele Barnett is in mission work.  She said she sees the hand of God in her brush with a dangerous man at her doorstep.

“I just felt his presence through the whole situation,” Barnett said.  "For one, I wasn’t even supposed to be home. Hopefully, this young man, because he did look fairly young, just hoping that maybe it scared him enough to fly straight a little bit.”

If you can help police identify the man in the sketch, call the Peachtree City Police Department.
