Atlanta United says goodbye to Bobby Dodd Stadium
ATLANTA - What looked at the start of the season to be a placeholder until Mercedes-Benz Stadium was ready, Bobby Dodd Stadium felt like a home by the end.
"I think it's been awesome," said Atlanta United midfielder Jeff Larentowicz. "Really one of the most enjoyable stretches of my career, honestly."
The brand new Major League Soccer team played their first nine home games at the historic football stadium on Georgia Tech's campus, going 6-2-1, finishing that off with a dramatic 1-1 draw against Orlando City Soccer Club.
"It's been the launching pad for a soccer craze in Atlanta that no one expected," said Atlanta United supporter Kelly Weisinger. "We're always going to hold it dear to our hearts."
Atlanta United will play their first game in their new home on September 10th against FC Dallas as Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be open for business. The players and fans, however, say they'll always remember where it all started.
