It was an unexpected proposal for an eight-year-old boy battling cancer for the third time.

Alex Richards was diagnosed with cancer when he was four-years-old.  A little over a year ago he received a bone marrow transplant from his sister, but recently the cancer cells have returned and Alex is back in chemo.

Last Sunday, a family friend, Shelby Butler asked Alex to her senior prom.  Alex said "yes!"

Unfortunately, Alex was unable to attend the prom.  Alex went into the hospital on Thursday with a fever and a rhino virus, which to us is a common cold, but to Alex is wreaking havoc on his body. "We are not sure how long we will be in the hospital," said Sheri Richards, Alex's mom.

Alex's sister Julia will be attending the prom with Shelby.

At this time, Alex is in good spirits, but is sad that he will miss the prom.
