Man charged after shooting innocent bystander at DeKalb County gas station, police say
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A man is facing charges after police say he tried to take the law into his own hands while searching for his stolen vehicle on Christmas.
Officials with the DeKalb County Police Department told FOX 5 that officers were called to a gas station on the 4000 block of Redan Road around 1:40 a.m. after reports of a shooting.
When officers got to the scene, they found a 20-year-old woman who had been shot multiple times.
Medics rushed the victim to a local hospital. She's currently recovering from her injuries.
Investigators say the situation began when a 29-year-old man arrived at the gas station to look for a vehicle that had been stolen from him. After spotting the vehicle, officials say the man began shooting, missing the people inside and hitting the woman, who was parked at a nearby pump.
The suspected gunman remained at the scene and was charged with aggravated assault.
The case remains under investigation.
