Georgia Democratic electors cast state's 16 votes for Biden, Harris
ATLANTA - For the first time since 1992, Georgia's electoral votes will go to a Democratic presidential candidate.
The state's 16 electors met inside the Georgia Senate Chamber at noon Monday to cast their votes for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
"It was very exciting and humbling to be there," said state Sen. Steve Henson, D-Stone Mountain.

Democrats, however, were not the only ones to meet inside the State Capitol. Georgia's Republican nominees for the Electoral College gathered inside a small room on the second floor where they also went through the process.
"Because the President's lawsuit contesting the Georgia election has not been decided or even heard, we held this meeting to preserve his rights. Had we not held the meeting then his lawsuit would effectively be mooted," explained Georgia Republican Party Chair David Shafer. "So, we held this meeting today to assure that if he prevails in the lawsuit that there'll be electoral votes that had been cast that will be available to him."

Georgia Democratic Party Chair Nikema Williams said she was unaware of the Republican meeting, but that those votes would not change the outcome of the election.
"I was too busy casting an official electoral college vote, Claire and I did not know that they were even downstairs," said Williams, speaking to FOX 5's Claire Simms. "That's unfortunate because the voters of Georgia have spoken and in our state, the will of the people has been heard and 16 Democratic electors cast their ballots today for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. We have the ascertainment that's been signed by the governor of the state and those are the votes that will be transmitted to reflect Georgia's will."
Congress will hold a joint session on Jan. 6, 2021 to count the votes and announced the winners.
