ATLANTA - In southwest Atlanta, the spirit of giving shone brightly this Christmas as Hosea Helps, a nonprofit organization, once again opened its doors to support families in need. 

Despite the financial struggles brought on by the current economic climate and ongoing inflation, the organization worked tirelessly to bring joy to the community.

The challenges were significant this year. With food prices soaring, many low-income families found it increasingly difficult to put meals on their tables, let alone provide gifts for their children. 

Middle-income families, too, felt the squeeze, leaving less room in their budgets for charitable donations. According to a recent report from Giving USA, charitable giving has been steadily declining nationwide since 2021—a trend that has deeply impacted nonprofits like Hosea Helps.

"This year, we weren’t sure we’d have enough toys to meet the demand for the thousand kids who came to us," shared the CEO of Hosea Helps. "It’s heartbreaking to think about the children we couldn’t reach."

But amidst the challenges, the volunteers at Hosea Helps found solace in the gratitude and hope of those they were able to serve. Families left with food, toys, and the comfort of knowing they weren’t alone during the holiday season.

As the organization reflects on this year’s efforts, they are already planning their next event, set to take place during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The hope is to continue their mission of feeding families, spreading joy, and bringing the community together.
