Office manager arrested: Millions allegedly stolen from Thomasville law firm
THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested and charged Melissa Mirick, 50, of Cairo, with eight felony counts of forgery in the third degree and one felony count of theft by taking.
The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI assistance on Aug. 8 after receiving reports of misappropriated funds held by South Georgia Law Associates, LLC, a law firm in Thomasville.
Investigators determined Mirick, who served as the law firm’s office manager, had full access and control over its financial accounts. The investigation revealed that over several years, Mirick moved funds between the law firm and GFA Design/Build Contractors, LLC, a Cairo-based company owned by Mirick and her husband. Authorities estimate the total theft could amount to several million dollars.
Mirick was arrested and booked into the Thomas County Jail on Dec. 9. The investigation remains active, and additional charges are expected.
