It was with heavy hearts that members of the City of South Fulton Police Department announced the passing of their "unofficial Chief of Police" Reginald Tatum.

South Fulton Police Chief Keith Meadows said via social media that Tatum was lovingly regarded as a father, an uncle, a mentor, an advocate and an all-around "remarkable individual."

"I'm sick," a grieving community member shared in the comment section. "Reggie was a long-time advocate and family friend."

Tatum was a very active member of South Fulton, frequently attending community meetings to voice the questions, comments and concerns of those around him, according to the chief.

"His impact on people and the community created a sense of family for everyone he encountered," said Chief Meadows. "Please continue to keep the Tatum family in your prayers during this challenging time. Reginald Tatum, your presence will be deeply missed."

Tatum's cause of death has not been revealed publicly.
