HAZMAT spill closes major Douglas County highway, officials say
LITHIA SPRINGS, Ga. - Douglas County officials say Riverside Parkway is closed and crews are responding to a HAZMAT spill.
Douglas County firefighters are working to clean a mess left when several 55-gallon containers of Chlorobenzotrifluoride fell of a semi-truck and rolled into a ditch on Riverside Parkway near North River Road in Lithia Springs.
Chlorobenzotrifluoride is a colorless liquid sometimes used in cleaning products that is flammable and considered an environmental hazard.
Riverside Parkway is shut down from the Chattahoochee River to Summer Lake Road due to an overturned tractor-trailer. Officials said cleanup could take several hours and drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.
