The Five Stripes defeated the Portland Timbers to claim the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy earlier this month. And as it turns out, there was a friendly wager between mayors.
“A bet is a bet,” Mayor Wheeler said on a video posted Friday to his official page as he congratulated Atlanta on their victory.
The video shows the mayor dressed in a custom “Wheeler” jersey as he goes about his day.
Timber Joey, the team’s unofficial mascot and lumberjack, shows up in the end with a hilarious take. It’s something you just have to watch.
No word on what Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms would have to do in the event of a loss, but we cannot imagine her wearing ponderosa and moss green.
You got to respect a good team, especially one with a great sense of humor about a loss. We hope to see them again soon on the pitch, but sorry, none us ever plan to wear green!
