Police search for robbery suspect in Gwinnett County
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Police are looking for an alleged attempted robber who tried to rob a woman at knifepoint and then broke into several cars in Gwinnett County.
Officials say an unidentified man ambushed a woman as she walked her dog in the are of Colony Circle and Victorian Court in Snellville at around 11 Sunday morning.
Snellville Police detective Jeff Manley told FOX 5's Deidra Dukes, "He approached the victim from behind. She realized he was coming behind and turned around. He produced a knife which she said was some sort of kitchen knife, some sort of steak knife, and he said: 'Give it to me, give it to me!' She got frightened, screamed and ran away."
The woman told police the man wore a white Halloween mask and was driving a red Volvo.
A short time later, Bill Wiggins was traveling on Holly Brook Road when he came upon a car parked on the side of the road and spotted the man breaking into cars in a church parking lot.
"Had a white pullover that was cinched around his face. You couldn't see a lot of his face. He was opening car doors."
Wiggins turned on his dashcam and started recording the man, who drove off in a red Volvo as Wiggins approached in his own vehicle.
"When we looked up there and saw the car and looked over and saw him opening doors, we looked at each other and I think he probably sensed that I was on to him."
Wiggins called 911 to report the crime and turned the video over to the police. He was surprised to learn that the same suspect was wanted in connection with the attempted robbery.
Police describe the suspect as a black man driving an older model maroon Volvo with no tag.
Anyone with information should call Snellville police.
