West Forsyth at South Forsyth – Call of the Week

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. - The 680 The Fan Call of the Week was at South Forsyth as the War Eagles host the West Forsyth Wolverines. Karl Werl and Doug Konkel called the action as photojournalist Eli Jordan captured it all.

The two AAAAAAA Region 5 teams went into Friday tied with Lambert in the region. The Wolverines with a 7-2 are near evenly matched with the 6-3 War Eagles.

This game could determine all the marbles for the region or trigger a tiebreaker to determine who gets a second season.

Here are just some of those calls from the game:

"As the crescent moon rises to its place in the sky, high above Eagles Stadium, the flames dance on the grill below with the heat turned up in this across crosstown rivalry: South Forsyth hosts West Forsyth.

"Coming in will be Charlie Hale to punt the ball back, back deep. Looking to return it is Joey Congrove. Taken by Congrove, and he drops the ball down on the turf. South Forsyth says they have it around the 25 yard line.

"Third down and goal from the 2-yard line, they'll set Guy Morra in motion, stutter step and now reverses it back the other way, hands it off to Julian [Mingo], fakes the hand off to Mingo. Keeping it is Morra. Morra's in for the six as it is on the cornerback keeper this time from two yards out.

"South Forsyth strikes first, 7-0.

"Second down and 11, pistol formation, Ryan Pontrelli off the line, move him in motion from the right to the left. He will hand up the middle, no he'll fake and throws it down field, has a man with the catch and is pulled down just inside the 20-yard line.

"Guy Morra goes in motion from the right to the left. And Morra takes the snap, rolling, now throwing and caught right in the far left corner. Beautiful catch by Jackson Parker, 14-3."

South Forsyth goes on to win it 21-17. They are the AAAAAAA Region 5 Champions.
